Memberships and community involvement

Community involvement

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) is grateful for the support of the local communities around the world where we have plants. We believe in giving back to these communities, and over the years the company and our employees have supported many local, state, national and international causes.

Innovate
Poland
Partnering with the SciTech Group and eduLAB, kp supported the Plastic Recycle Science Challenge at the Wroclaw University of Technology. The open ‘hackathon’ encouraged over 300 people, from scientists to enthusiastic amateurs, to put forward their ideas on how to reduce plastic leakage into the environment.
Accelerate
Portugal, Wales and Australia
Every year we have suppliers who turn thousands of littered plastic bottles into high-quality post-consumer recycled polyester (rPET). The bottles are collected by local communities, with the people who collect the litter and bring it in for recycling getting paid instantly. To support local economic growth, they are also offered a chance to become entrepreneurs through creating their own aggregation sites, with an investment for trucks to enable larger collection operations.
Educate
Argentina
We’ve been working with students from the IPET 413 secondary school, close to our plant in Sinsacate, Argentina, on a project to create a recycling culture across the local municipality. Along with technical help, we have supplied students with a machine that can grind post-consumer PET into flakes, which can then be transformed into new products.
Educate
England
As part of our efforts to educate as many people as possible on the benefits of plastic, we have been sponsoring the Starpack Student and Schools Awards. In 2018, students were instructed to create recyclable packaging solutions to help reduce food waste and promote healthy eating. Of the 44 designs submitted, 13 received awards for excellent work.
Activate
Wales
Following the launch of a £6.5 million Circular Economy Fund in Wales in 2019, Hannah Blythyn, Welsh Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government, visited our South Wales site. The televised visit provided an opportunity for us to raise public awareness of plastics and recyclability.
